Mission Statement

Resilient kids bounce back. But what makes a kid resilient?

Relationships, research shows, are what build resilience. A relationship with parents and other family members is best, but when these are strained by immigration and poverty, children often look for connection in school or after school programs.

To foster the relationships that build resilience, Building Resilience in Kids (BRIK) has been innovating in training for both after-school workers and public school teachers in Lowell. Drawing on the research from the Stone Center at Wellesley and the Harvard Graduate school of Education work on girls' development, we have offered programs on connecting with children for after school workers from around Lowell, and teachers' professional development groups. We have developed a curriculum for use with middle school children who have difficulty communicating well with each other, which is now in use in a preventive health care setting in Lawrence as well as in the Lowell schools.

All of these programs need to continue, and your help makes this possible. We are associated with Community Teamwork Inc. of Lowell, a well established 501c3 organization.
